 Although stylized and slightly art nouveau, the actual inspiration for the painting, is a real scene I saw at Knole Park in Sevenoaks last autumn. A row of trees stood perfectly aligned and a herd of deer stood beneath them peering out at me. It is a simple scene that appealed to me for that reason. Simple and aesthetically pleasing. The paint is thick and textured and ranges through deep purples, pinks, oranges, yellows and white. Painted on deep edge canvas with the edges painted to match.
