Description
The Lion of Venice, representing Mark the Evangelist, is a winged lion, is an aspect of the Tetramorph. On the pinnacle of St Mark's Cathedral he is depicted as holding a Bible, and surmounting a golden lion which is the symbol of the city of Venice and formerly of the Venetian Republic.
This print is an etching and aquatint made on a copper plate. Firstly inked in a deep red , the plate is then surface rolled in gold. It is printed on Somerset Velvet, a heavyweight 300 gsm handmade paper from St Cuthbert's Mill in Somerset. The print is in a limited edition of 75 and signed by the artist. The image size is 8.5 x 11 cm on a paper size is 18 x 20 cm.
This print is a multi-plate etching and aquatint and is made on three copper plates, one printed over another and then another, the overprinting giving a much denser colour. It is hand-printed onto a heavyweight 300 gram handmade at St Cuthbert's Mill in Somerset, England and is in a limited edition of 75 and is signed and numbered by the artist. The image size is 15 x 20 cm on a paper size is 25 x 30 cms.
