Description
This is an original print pulled from a rubber engraving, one of twenty-six illustrations made for a version of 'Strike Pay' by D H Lawrence, published in 2018. The first purpose was to provide images to be reproduced in the book, so only a few prints were pulled from each engraving. Fourteen of the books' original illustrations are now offered for sale. Each print is numbered alongside the edition size and also signed with the year. The titles of each were drawn from Lawrence's text. In the story, miners on strike are walking the road to Nottingham as the Colonel with his horses comes into view. One of the miners declares, "Sithee, sithee, here comes the Colonel. Sithee at his 'osses how they pick up their toes, the beauties!" Lawrence adds, 'The Colonel drove past the men, who took no notice of him.'
