Description

In the Dordogne town of Thiviers lies a square called 'Place Jean-Paul Sartre'. The famous intellectual once lived alongside here as a boy, an experience he later decried. Whether the attaching of Sartre's name to this small car park and toilet was meant as an accolade or a put-down, I suppose is in the eye of the beholder. I suspect the latter, hence the title of this picture. On the other hand, if you want to park your car and need the toilet, surely this is just the place. I think Sartre would think it was all right and could imagine him having a kip in the back of that van.
