Description
Over centuries, storming seas threw shards of flint up against the coast of Suffolk, forming a 10 mile long peninsula called Orford Ness. For most of the twentieth century it was a place for testing explosives. Radio and radar were also developed and used there. Today its' shifting mass of shingle, tidal rivers, mud flats, lagoons, grass and marshland, is a conservation area under the care of the National Trust and visitors may travel across by boat to that eerie and beautiful place. Designated paths steer the visitor past the danger of remnant bombs.
