Description
Standing at over a thousand feet in beautiful Derbyshire lies the remains of this old lead mine. Magpie mine went through various booms and busts in the course of over 200 years, finally closing in 1954. It was regularly in dispute with a neighbouring company, with fights in the courts and battles underground. The place is said have been cursed by the widows of three miners who were killed by smoke inhalation in one such violent encounter.
This print is pulled from an engraving cut from rubber.
