Description
Who hasn't enjoyed an evening at the flicks? There is a long cinematic history in Birmingham and "The Electric" is the oldest working cinema in the UK. This city has a long tradition of free and creative thinking. Thousands of small specialist firms with a highly skilled workforce made up a kaleidoscopic mix of innovation and prosperity. Then from 1940 to 1943 the city was heavily blitzed, destroying homes, factories and infrastructure. After the war the destruction continued with modern town planning and restrictions designed to choke commercial development. Yet there is an unstoppable momentum here and it seems more than likely that Birmingham's star will rise again soon.
