Description
A number of striking elements are present in this painting. Most eye-catching is the cataract coming off the hillside, though the hill itself is being swallowed up by the clouds at its head. Though a stormy scene there is a hope of brighter weather on the distant horizon where the mists are breaking up and, of course, there is a sentinel stag with white-tipped antlers, standing guard for the rest of the herd in the background.
