Description
April Jewel is a 30x30 inches oil painting on canvas showing a kingfisher sitting on a branch of white blossom. It was painted after walking along the Medway river where apple blossom and hawthorn trees where blossoming in April. The painting is mostly greens, blues, pinks and whites and is expressionist, semi-abstract, art-nouveau in style. The thing I love most about exploring Sussex (or any) countryside is that as you walk you see so many little movements and viewpoints – especially though trees – that are fleeting but which sum up the day, the season and the area. This was a simple painting with no other significance that the urge to encapsulate a memory of a moment in April. The kingfisher did not appear on this occasion but I have seen her there previously and I am good at pretending in the name of artistic licence. A good place to walk the Medway is at Chafford Bridge, Fordcombe TN30SP. The painting is on deep edge canvas, white edges, ready to hang on the wall.
