Description

Brown-throated Sunbird

This vibrant artwork portrays the Brown-throated Sunbird (Anthreptes malacensis), perched gracefully against a backdrop of tropical blooms. With its olive-golden breast, shimmering head tones, and striking red eye, this sunbird embodies the jewel-like beauty of Southeast Asia's forests and gardens.

Native to a wide range stretching from southern China and Thailand through Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines, the Brown-throated Sunbird thrives in mangroves, lowland forests, and cultivated gardens. It feeds primarily on nectar, its slender curved bill perfectly adapted to probing flowers, though it will also take insects and spiders to supplement its diet.

Sunbirds are often compared to hummingbirds for their iridescence and flower-loving habits, and like them, they play a vital role as pollinators. Their quick movements, dazzling colours, and constant presence among blossoms make them a delight to watch in their natural habitat.

This piece captures the elegance of the species in exquisite detail, highlighting both the delicacy of its plumage and its close association with the tropical flora it depends upon.

Printed using archival pigment inks on museum-quality fine art paper, this Limited Edition Giclée (150) preserves the richness of colour and detail. Each print is hand-signed and numbered by the artist, and includes a certificate of authenticity.

Poetic Note
Among the blossoms, bright and sweet,
A jewel of the tropics comes to meet.
Its nectar song, a fleeting flame,
Nature's painter, wild and untame.
