I have always lived in a fairly rural part of the Southwest, and from a young age was encouraged to enjoy the beauty of the natural world on long family walks on Exmoor and visits to the seaside. This love of nature is what inspires much of my work, studies of the birds I see on the wetlands, the forests, and the hills I walk through.
Whilst studying, I mainly worked in pencil and ink, creating small, intricate pieces. I find this led on to my current practice of linoprint, where I need to simplify the shapes of what I am portraying, and be accurate and clean in the lines. It appeals to my need for routine and order.
Recently, I have focused more on drypoint, where I can combine line work with selective inking and wiping to create a more expressive piece. For example, in my recent underwater series, I used selective wiping to portray the light coming down from the ocean's surface and the rays of the diver's torch. I have been using tetrapak for this work. I like
