I am an artist and a teacher. I have been painting for many years but am now able to give much more time to developing my practice. I paint intuitively with no preconceived ideas about outcomes. This way I can concentrate on colour, mood, expression, and marks, all of which I love.
Sometimes an event, a place or a mood will kickstart the process and from that point it is a voyage of discovery, adding and subtracting, stepping away and returning with fresh eyes.
The process is all-important and arriving at a point where the painting starts to dictate the direction is always exciting. I like to create a sense of drama. If the viewer chooses, hopefully they can find a narrative but it is not always necessary, mostly I want them to enjoy or be moved by what they see.
I also paint botanical subjects.
