Craig Knight gained his BA (Hons) Fine Art from Hull College of HE and PGCE Fine Art from St Martins, Lancaster. He is a figurative painter with eclectic interests ranging from comics/graphic novels, graffiti to fine art and philosophy.
His paintings develop organically as part of a problem-solving process to gain the illusion of control and deal with personal feelings, the structure of memories and the social construction of the self. They attempt to communicate a shared sense of being, crowded Neo-Pop imagery is employed as metaphor for conceptual confusion, joy created in the dialogue between artist and audience- sharing references, meaning and confusion. By sourcing imagery from pop culture, he hopes to reflect upon the nature of our constructed identity and evolving self.
Though oil is his favourite medium, lately, he has started using acrylic, spray paint and marker for their immediacy. This methodology has linked the work to graffiti and street art.
