Description

In a clearing in Thetford forest, new trees struggle but they will ultimately overwhelm all competing plant life. They will grow and be felled over the equivalent span of one human generation. The establishment of this particular forest was an aftermath of World War One, when demand for timber had outstripped supply. The planting of a dark forest over once sunny and open heathland is a fitting memorial to those men and their families whose love and faith was trampled down in the Great War. As horrific memory fades, parts of the forest are being opened out and in spaces within, music is sometimes played.
