Description

Two figures walk side by side through an ancient wood. Do you have a favourite place to walk with someone close to your heart? Or perhaps a place to walk in the memory of a loved one. Later in life one can perhaps only bring to mind somewhere and someone special. The love between two people in a certain place may resonate through a lifetime. I took the title of this picture from lines in a Thomas Hardy poem:

There at least smiles abound
There discourse trills around
There, now and then, are found
Life loyalties.

This is a relief print pulled from engraved rubber. The paper I used for this print is unusual and originates from bark pulped from trees in the Himalaya mountains, harvested in four-year cycles. The paper is hand-made and has some small variability.
